Role changes and offboarding
Transitions should preserve continuity for people and customers while respecting the employee experiencing the change.
The responsible manager coordinates a transition plan that covers:
- the effective date and change in responsibilities;
- current commitments, decisions, risks, and important relationships;
- a named owner for each continuing responsibility;
- documentation and knowledge-transfer sessions;
- access to add, change, or remove;
- company equipment, information, and records; and
- communication to affected colleagues or customers.
Do not delete or privately retain company records as part of a handoff. Preserve them in their approved source of truth and make the new owner clear.
Offboarding details, final pay, benefits, notices, and access timing vary by employment arrangement and location. The manager and People owner must follow the approved process rather than relying on this overview alone.
